Imagine Minnesota, a big lake. An adolescent girl, living with her ex-hippy parents, who have a very minor role in the novel. Instead, she gets to be babysitter of a small boy from Christian Scientists.
Linda lives with her parents in a former commune and attends a small school where she doesn’t fit in. Her life changes when a new family moves in across the lake. Linda becomes a babysitter for their young son, Paul. As she spends more time with Paul and his mother, Patra, she becomes aware of unsettling truths about their family.
After getting indulged in the boredom and non-transient beauty of Minnesota life, you slowly accept this story of moral, a small perversion here and there, and moral gone bad. The girl being the centre of the story, it slowly develops, one step at a time, and that’s quite pleasant, borderline boring.
But also lovely-ish.
