Exit West is a short, 250-page novel by Mohsin Hamid which tells the story of a (near-)couple fleeing from some Arabic war area to Europe cq. US. How they flee is by going through doors, and I understood it as metaphors for, for what?, for fleeing as a transition rather than a goal; thus allowing the author to create a world where everyone is in transit. But that is beside the point, perhaps, in the book. It is a normal story about life and love, about a couple who have sex perhaps only once, which is a topic and which isn’t; a book about equality.
I’m happy I read it. I am not sure I liked it, though.
